The Lynx at River Bend's "2010 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania"

The Lynx Golf Course is owned by Shohola alumnus Andrew Koch.

The Lynx Golf Course was originally designed by A.W. Tillinghast and first opened for play in 1921. An advocate of strategy and challenging greens, A.W. Tillinghast was a prolific American golf architect whom designed courses that have held an array of professional tournaments like the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open. “Tillie”, as he liked to be called, also coined the term “birdie” to describe a one-under-par score for a hole. The courses he has created have defined the Golden age. His finest courses were particularly on the east coast and included Bethpage, Baltusrol, Ridgewood, Winged Foot and many more.

A.W. Tillinghast was one of the most creative and poetic golf architects in the first half-century of the game. Tillinghast’s career as a golf architect began in 1907. He became an immediate success, which led to the designing of the Port Jervis course in 1915. In 1916 Tillinghast became one of a select group of amateurs invited to participate in the organizational meeting of the PGA. The Port Jervis Country Club has been a member owned Private Club for over 90 years. In January 2011 The Club was purchased by Andrew and Elaine Koch and renamed The Lynx at River Bend Golf Club. While striving to maintain the history of the course, the new owners are presently remodeling and enhancing the entire course and facility. Combined with the name change, the facility is also now Semi-Private and open for Non-Member play.
